Installing ShopkeeperPOS Desktop 💻

ShopkeeperPOS Desktop is a native macOS application that you install directly on your Mac. It's designed to work offline, connect to USB printers, and provide a fast, reliable point-of-sale experience.

Platform Support: ShopkeeperPOS Desktop is currently available for macOS (both ARM64 Apple Silicon and Intel x64 Macs). The application requires macOS 10.13 or later.

Downloading the Application

To get started:

  1. Visit shopkeeperpos.com/download
  2. Click "Download for macOS"
  3. The download will start automatically
  4. Wait for the download to complete (the file will be in your Downloads folder)

Installing on macOS

Step 1: Open the Installer

  1. Go to your Downloads folder
  2. Find the ShopkeeperPOS Desktop installer file (usually named something like "ShopkeeperPOS-Desktop.dmg")
  3. Double-click the file to open it
  4. You'll see a window with the ShopkeeperPOS Desktop app icon

Step 2: Install the Application

  1. Drag the ShopkeeperPOS Desktop icon to your Applications folder
  2. Wait for the copy to complete
  3. You can now close the installer window
  4. Eject the disk image (right-click → Eject)

Step 3: First Launch

When you first launch ShopkeeperPOS Desktop:

  1. Open Applications folder
  2. Double-click ShopkeeperPOS Desktop
  3. If you see a security warning, don't worry—this is normal for downloaded applications:
    • Go to System Settings Privacy & Security
    • Click "Open Anyway" next to the security message
    • Confirm that you want to open the application
  4. The application will launch and you'll see the login screen

⚠️ Important

Security Note: macOS may warn you about opening an application from an unidentified developer. This is a standard security feature. If you downloaded from the official website, it's safe to open. You may need to allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

System Requirements

Before installing, make sure your Mac meets these requirements:

  • Operating System: macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or later
  • Architecture: Apple Silicon (ARM64) or Intel (x64)
  • RAM: 4GB minimum (8GB recommended)
  • Storage: 500MB free disk space
  • Internet: Required for initial setup and data sync (offline mode available after setup)

Auto-Updates

ShopkeeperPOS Desktop includes automatic updates:

  • Updates download automatically in the background
  • You'll be notified when an update is ready
  • Updates install seamlessly without losing your data
  • You can also check for updates manually from the menu

Uninstalling

If you need to uninstall ShopkeeperPOS Desktop:

  1. Quit the application (if it's running)
  2. Open your Applications folder
  3. Drag ShopkeeperPOS Desktop to the Trash
  4. Empty the Trash to complete the uninstallation
Data Safety: Uninstalling the application doesn't delete your business data, which is stored securely in the cloud. You can reinstall and log in to access all your data again.

Troubleshooting

Application Won't Open

If the application won't launch:

  • Check that your Mac meets the system requirements
  • Make sure you've allowed the application in Privacy & Security settings
  • Try restarting your Mac
  • Re-download the installer from the official website

Installation Fails

If installation fails:

  • Make sure you have enough disk space
  • Check that you have administrator privileges
  • Try downloading the installer again
  • Contact support if issues persist
