Quick Start Guide 🚀

Welcome! We're excited to help you get started with ShopKeeper POS. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to set up your store and process your first sale. Don't worry—we'll be with you every step of the way!

Estimated time: About 10-15 minutes. Take your time and don't rush—we want you to feel confident!

Step 1: Install ShopkeeperPOS Desktop

First, you'll need to install the application on your Mac:

  1. Download ShopkeeperPOS Desktop from shopkeeperpos.com/download
  2. Open the downloaded installer file
  3. Drag the application to your Applications folder
  4. Launch ShopkeeperPOS Desktop from Applications

Step 2: Create Your Account

When you first launch ShopkeeperPOS Desktop, you'll need to create an account or log in:

  • New User: Click "Sign Up" and provide:
    • Your email address
    • A secure password
    • Your business name
  • Existing User: Simply log in with your email and password

After signing up, check your email inbox—we'll send you a confirmation email to verify your account. Just click the link in the email and you're all set!

💡 Tip

Pro tip: Use a business email address if you have one. This makes it easier to manage your account and receive important updates.

Step 3: Set Up Your Store

Once you're logged in, you'll see a friendly setup wizard that will guide you through configuring your store. This is where the magic happens! Here's what you'll set up:

  • Store name and address: This appears on receipts and reports
  • Business hours: Help customers know when you're open
  • Tax settings: We'll help you configure sales tax correctly
  • Currency and locale: Make sure everything displays correctly for your region

💡 Tip

Don't worry if you're not sure about some settings—you can always come back and change them later in Settings!

Step 4: Add Your First Product

Now for the fun part—adding products! Navigate to the Products section (you'll find it in the main menu) and click the big "Add Product" button.

Fill in the basic information to get started:

  • Product name: What you're selling (e.g., "Blue T-Shirt")
  • SKU: A unique code for tracking (e.g., "TSH-BLUE-001")
  • Price: How much you're selling it for
  • Initial inventory quantity: How many you have in stock

Once you've filled everything in, click "Save" and congratulations—you just added your first product! 🎉

You can add photos, descriptions, and more details later. For now, just the basics are perfect to get you started!

Step 5: Configure Your Printer (Optional)

If you have a USB printer, set it up now for receipt printing:

  1. Connect your USB printer to your Mac
  2. Go to Settings → Printer Settings
  3. Click "Detect Printer"
  4. Select your printer from the list
  5. Click "Test Print" to verify it works

💡 Tip

Don't have a printer yet? No problem! You can set it up later. Check out our USB Printer Setup guide when you're ready.

Step 6: Process Your First Sale

Ready to make your first sale? Let's do it! Go to the Point of Sale interface (look for the shopping cart icon in the menu).

Here's how it works:

  1. Search for or scan the product you want to sell (or click on it if you're using the touch interface)
  2. Add it to the cart—you'll see it appear on the right side
  3. When you're ready, click the big "Checkout" button
  4. Choose how the customer is paying (cash, card, mobile payment, etc.)
  5. Complete the transaction—that's it!

💡 Tip

First sale tip: Try processing a test sale with a small amount to get comfortable with the interface. You can always refund it if needed!
